Q：What kind of role did your company aim to fulfill when you started your journey in Singapore?
We have been operating as part of the IHI Group since 2003.
Our roots in Singapore date back to 1963, when IHI established Jurong Shipyard as a joint venture with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
Originating from the Niigata Engineering of Nippon Oil Co., Ltd., our heritage as an engine manufacturer dates back to 1919, when we developed Japan’s first designed marine diesel engine.
We expanded into Singapore in 1978 and have since supported the logistics and energy infrastructure development of Southeast Asia.
Our Journey Toward Decarbonization
Q： What core beliefs, commitments, and passions do you value most in your daily operations?
In recent years, we have positioned the realization of a decarbonized society as one of our most important missions, and our efforts have led to tangible results.
Following the delivery of Singapore’s first marine gas engine for LNG-fueled vessels, we also entered a new field by supplying the country’s first backup gas turbine generator system for data centers.
We believe that introducing technology is only the first step; our mission is to ensure that these technologies become established and deliver real value through practical implementation in society.
Future Plans Section – Ammonia: Fueling the Next Energy Transition
Q：How do you envision growing alongside Singapore, and in what ways do you hope to keep contributing to the nation?
Since the 1960s, the IHI Group has been operating in Singapore and deeply intertwined with the growth of its maritime sector. Building on this foundation, we have strived to balance reducing environmental impact with improving energy efficiency, contributing to decarbonization.
In Japan, the IHI Group has completed the demonstration voyage of a tugboat equipped with the world’s first ammonia-fueled engine developed by the group. Since ammonia emits no carbon dioxide (CO2) during combustion, it contributed to a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction of up to approximately 95%.
Going forward, the IHI Group plans to introduce ammonia-fueled engines to the Singapore market and contribute further to the nation’s decarbonization efforts.

Singapore is a remarkable city where diverse cultures thrives in harmony and order. What inspires me most is the way its advanced urban living coexists seamlessly with world-class port infrastructure.
Witnessing a global business hub embody both economic vitality and environmental stewardship is a quality I deeply admire.

Daiki Ikeda has held leadership positions in both domestic and international sales for the land-based and marine power systems businesses of IHI Power Systems.
He currently oversees power systems operations across Southeast Asia and the Middle East and has accumulated a total of 12 years of experience working in Singapore.
