Diving into the Deep End: Carving Out a Path from Scratch in Singapore

Q:Could you tell us about your early days when you first moved to Singapore, driven by the desire to turn your passion into your career?

Leaving my corporate job in Japan was the catalyst that compelled me to pursue what I truly wanted to do with my life. I resolved to take a leap of faith into the world of floral design—a passion I had held since early childhood.

In 2006, at the age of 28, I relocated to Singapore. I arrived with virtually no English language skills, spending my early days doing cold calls with nothing but a portfolio of my work in hand. Operating with no established track record or network, it was a period of continuous trial and error—an experience I often describe as jumping into the water without knowing how to swim.

Yet, through a year and a half of perseverance, I discovered the unique value I could offer. That breakthrough became the turning point for the business I lead today.

To Exceed Expectations, First Align Yourself

Q:What are the core values or philosophies you cherish most in your current work?

The core philosophy I value above all else is ensuring that our work consistently transcends our clients’ expectations. Beyond crafting sheer visual beauty, I refuse to compromise on the smallest details. I place immense focus on delicately absorbing the underlying emotions, thoughts, and specific goals of our clients, weaving those elements directly into the DNA of every installation. My greatest fulfillment comes when both the sender and the receiver look at the final creation and say, “I am so incredibly glad we chose you.”

Artistry in the floral industry demands far more than raw creative sensitivity; it requires immense physical stamina and absolute concentration. To maintain this, I commit to two hours of intense physical training every day after work to keep my mind and body in peak condition. I firmly believe that when I am operating at my absolute best, fresh ideas flow naturally, allowing me to face each canvas of flowers with maximum performance.

Pioneering ”Zero to One”: Empowering the Next Generation

Q:What new challenges do you hope to take on, and what goals do you aim to achieve in the future?

Looking ahead, I want to challenge myself with larger, monumental installations that carry a unique signature. My goal is to design spatial floral works for hotels, luxury brand events, and public spaces that will remain in people’s memories for years to come.

At the same time, I wish to share my experience of starting from scratch in a foreign country with the next generation. What we love as children can often guide our careers and inspire us to seek new horizons. If my journey can encourage someone to take their first step or discover their own potential, nothing would bring me greater fulfillment.

What Singapore Taught Me About My Potential

Q:What does Singapore mean to you?

Singapore is a place where you are evaluated on the value you deliver, rather than your age or title. Starting here with nothing allowed me to truly discover my potential. To me, Singapore is more than just a location for my business; it is a place of endless challenge that allowed me to redefine my life.
