Bridging Trust, Building Tomorrow — A 50-Year Journey — Koichi Zaiki, CEO for Asia-Pacific, Mizuho Bank, Ltd., Mizuho Financial Group, Inc.

A Dual Milestone: Celebrating SJ60 and Mizuho Singapore’s 50th Anniversary

This year, 2026, marks the momentous occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ60). For Mizuho, it is a profoundly moving period of consecutive milestones, as our Singapore office celebrated its landmark 50th anniversary just last year. For many decades, Mizuho has positioned Singapore as the vital core of our Asian operations. Far beyond merely supporting local businesses, we have served as a hub connecting diverse nations across Asia, supporting the comprehensive development of the entire region.

Etched into the Cityscape: The Footprints of Our Shared Challenges

Operating within limitations of land and natural resources, Singapore has achieved strategic, meticulously planned development to establish itself as a global hub for trade and logistics. The nation has built world-class systems supporting its top-tier airport and ports, successfully earning unwavering trust from countries and corporations worldwide.

Japanese enterprises active across diverse sectors serve as a powerful force bolstering this circle of trust. Mizuho has proudly played a key role in sustaining this confidence by collaborating with Japanese businesses on numerous projects, including Marina Bay Sands, Changi International Airport, and NTT DATA’s Data Centre REIT.

Optimal Support, Driven by Connection

As the challenges faced by corporations become increasingly complex and diverse, Mizuho aims to contribute to society through the core theme of “connecting.” A primary example of this vision is our focus on integrating banking and securities functions to provide seamless, unified support.

When Omni Plus System, a specialized chemical materials trading company, sought listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, our group worked as one to support them in becoming the first Singaporean company to list in Japan. Moving beyond traditional banking boundaries, we combine specialized securities expertise to bridge regions and organizations, weaving together the collective wisdom of the entire Mizuho Group to deliver the best possible solutions.

Serving as a Bridge Beyond Finance

Singapore is characterized by a strong sense of mutual support among its diverse mix of cultures and people. At Mizuho, we will continue to play a role as a bridge connecting Japan and Singapore through initiatives such as the Mizuho Singapore Foundation, the first foundation established by a Japanese bank in the country.
