Q：What was the greatest challenge or turning point that your organization faced while walking alongside Singapore’s development?
Ever since we took our very first steps in 2004 as Albirex Niigata Singapore, we have constantly looked inward and asked ourselves one fundamental question: “How can we truly contribute to this nation?” Over our rich 20-year history, we have strived to grow alongside local football, leading to a profound turning point in 2024, when we made the conscious decision to fully integrate into the fabric of Singaporean society.Our transition to FC Jurong represents a deep commitment to becoming an institution that the local community genuinely needs. It is a milestone that honors our past while setting the stage for a collaborative future, serving as an enduring bridge that continuously brings Japan and Singapore closer together.
Safeguarding Our DNA While Welcoming Tomorrow
Q：What core values and philosophies have been passed down through the generations as part of your organization’s unchanging “DNA”?
We are currently navigating an exciting period of transition as we recreate ourselves as FC Jurong. While our name and crest are evolving, this shift has given us a valuable opportunity to re-evaluate the very essence of who we are. Our foundational origin will always remain anchored in the values we brought from Japan: a deep-rooted focus on nurturing talent, an unwavering commitment to building trust through sincerity, and a culture of mutual respect.Every single day, through our training sessions, youth academy programs, and local outreach initiatives, we give these values tangible shape. By listening closely to the voices of our neighborhood and embracing Singapore’s magnificent diversity, we are harmonizing our original DNA with the needs of a modern era to craft the future of this club.
Becoming a Lifeline for the Community
Q：What kind of footprint or legacy do you aim to leave over the next 10 to 20 years?
Our vision is for FC Jurong to be woven into the fabric of daily life as an essential public utility—alongside water, electricity, and gas. We see the club as a community hub where families, schools, and businesses connect, using football as a catalyst to open new doors in education, talent development, and cultural exchange. Looking to the future, we want to remain a vital lifeline for the neighborhood, extending far beyond the boundaries of the stadium. Our transition to FC Jurong allows us to refocus on our core identity. Our roots remain firmly anchored in the values we brought from Japan: nurturing talent, building trust through sincerity, and maintaining mutual respect. We bring these values to life daily through our youth academy and local outreach initiatives, blending our Japanese heritage with Singapore’s rich diversity to shape the future of the club.
A Forward-Looking Atmosphere
Q：What elements of Singapore’s culture or urban lifestyle do you find truly wonderful and inspiring?
What I cherish most about Singapore is the beautiful way people from vastly different backgrounds live in harmony, naturally cheering on one another’s aspirations and challenges. There is an incredible strength in the way this compact nation projects itself onto the global stage, wrapped in an atmosphere that is always actively pushing forward. Even after calling this island home for 19 years, that infectious, progressive energy never ceases to inspire me.

Daisuke Korenaga
Football Club Jurong, Chairman
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1977. He assumed the role of Chairman at Albirex Niigata Singapore in 2008, successfully orchestrating a remarkable financial and operational turnaround. Under his visionary leadership, the club achieved an extraordinary domestic sweep of all available titles for three consecutive seasons (2016–2018). He later served as the President of Albirex Niigata in Japan from 2019.
